West District Cup Quarter Final

On Sunday the 4th of February the 3XI descended on Craigholme for the Quarter Final of the West District Cup. Although feeling a bit rough after GUSA ball the night before, we were eager for a win. The game started off rough with Ardrossan getting a goal in the first couple of minutes of the first half. However, the girls endured and with Cari battling it out in centre midfield and the forward line pushing further and further up the pitch, Glasgow soon equalised courtesy of Corrie Grant. The team were keen for a win at half time and got a shock when again, Ardrossan scored within the opening minutes of the half. Glasgow endured another knock when Alex Mennie went down with a twisted ankle. The 3XI soldiered on, and Corrie soon got her second goal, levelling the playing field once more. Due to the final scoreline, the game was decided with flicks, taken heroically by Hannah Dodds, Cari McKinley, Niamh Frizzell, Niamh Tweddie and Sophie Highet. Phoebe Faulds pulled out some excellent saves when it mattered the most, allowing Glasgow to win 4-3 on flicks. The girls now look forward to playing Wildcats in the semi final. this item about? What makes it interesting?

Edinbugh Uni 4th XI Away

On Sunday the mighty threes travelled to peffermill to play against Edinburgh University's 4's. With this team being a few leagues above Glasgow a tough game was expected. Glasgow started of strong with Cari McKinley and Naomi Duncan making so amazing passes between each other on the left, defeating Edinburgh each time. Unfortunately Edinburgh took the lead within the first 10 minutes scoring a goal. However Glasgows heads did not drop, Joanna Minnis played very skillfully working the ball around Edinburghs defence and defeating the goalie to bring the score line to 1-1. As the second half began Glasgow were playing some beautiful hockey making tactical passes between players and beating Edinburgh on numerous occasions. Edinburghs skill lead them to scoring a goal from a penalty corner taking them into the lead once more. However Corrie Grant levelled the score line again within 5 minutes, flicking the ball over the goalie and meeting the backboard. With 5 minutes left to play Edinburgh unfortunately scored leaving the final score line at 3-2. Glasgow was very pleased with this performance.
